Hello Blogging

Hi all.  My name is Lynn and this is my first official Blog post.  Thanks for stopping by.

My blog is called Stampin’ with Avery’s Owlery at AverysOwlery.com.  I bet you are wondering why that name and what does it have to do with stamping.  Well, as a name it doesn’t really have anything to do with stamping, but I hope you will consider joining my Owlery on your own journey in card making and stamping.  The name came from my granddaughter.  Her name is Avery and my daughter choose to decorate her room with owls.  Her walls are painted like trees and leaves with many owls throughout.  So, there you have it.  Avery’s Owlery.

I live in Central Ohio with my husband our dog and our cat.  My two grown girls are married and live nearby.  My husbands four grown children are throughout the midwest.  I have been a lifetime crafter, doing cross stitch, crochet and some painting but have only been a card maker and stamper for about 3 years.  Any thing to keep my hands busy.  The other crafts I  dabbled in captured my interest but nothing like stamping and card making.

I was introduced to stamping by my friend and co-worker Dee.  I kept seeing women coming out of a conference room every other week with beautiful cards they had made themselves.  Dee was holding Card Club.  She would find a card, bring ALL the supplies in to work with her and at lunch time on Tuesdays they would make a card or two.  Well I had to get in on that.  She always chose cards that had new techniques for us to learn.  I learned so much for her that I started purchasing some supplies at home, just a few things.  Then my daughter’s wedding was coming and I thought, why not make her invitations, using what I had learned from Dee.  They were beautiful, if I do say so myself, and that was it. I was hooked.

Shortly after the wedding I remember Dee talking about a different card club she was in, one through Stampin’ Up.  They met monthly and while at the club would make 3 cards or other paper craft items.  The cost to be in the club was only a minimum purchase from the Stampin’ Up catalog of more stuff, and I could chose what I wanted to order.  That was it, I was now not only hooked on card making but also hooked on Stampin’ Up products.  Dee always said she was a paper snob.  I now knew what that meant.  The paper is so much better than what you can find in the big box stores. The ink all matches the paper.  The punches coordinate with the stamps, the framelits coordinate with other stamps.  It’s a crafter’s dream come true.

I started ordering monthly through the club, then I’d have to put in other orders for more stuff.  I thought I could do my card thing without needing a lot of stamps.  Silly me.  My daughter found a sign that said “It always starts with just one stamp.”  Ain’t that the truth!  I have cabinets full of stamps, and other cabinets full of paper of every color, and then there are the inks, and the markers, and the punches.  I’m telling you, it is addicting.

But here is the real reason I love it.  I can give what I make to others, and they always appreciate receiving it.  Unlike crocheted blankets, you can only give your kids so many before they yell Uncle.  And cross stitch is beautiful, and I have a lot of wonderful pieces hanging in my home, but I’ve run out of room to hang any more.  But cards, there is always a reason to give a card to someone.  Birthdays at least once a year. Anniversary’s and graduations that come around.  The wedding you were invited to.  The Thank You we all should say more often. The Sympathy for those who have left us and the Get Well for those under the weather.  The more cards you need to make the more opportunity you have to be creative.

I joined Stampin’ Up as a demonstrator this spring and am proud to be part of Brian King’s downline as well as the Stampin Pretty Pals under Mary Fish.  I learned so much about the products and uses, the promotions and great all around stamping info that I’ll be sharing with you all as we go along.
