Inspiration from the world around you

Last weekend I was in Atlanta for a World Card Making Day event.  While there, one of our topics of discussion was where do you find inspiration.  I find it everywhere, certainly from color and sketch challenges, pinterest, even the Stampin’ Up! publications and catalogs. Today, though, I was inspired by a set of place mats and coasters.

Colors – Cherry Cobbler, Island Indigo, Hello Honey, Old Olive, Elegant Eggplant

Stampin Up Daydream Medallions Floral FramesI purchased the place mats and matching coasters from my Avon lady, Lona.  Lona and I go way back as there are several items I always purchase from Avon and have for almost 30 years.  Anyway, I saw these mats and thought they would look nice on my kitchen table and be something different from the ones I’ve been using lately.  Once I go them home I realized how much they reminded me of the Daydream Medallions stamp set and the coordinating framelits Floral Frames Collection.

It took me a couple of tries to get the look I wanted.  I thought at first I could stamp everything on whisper white then emboss with clear powder so I could sponge around it, but that did not work out AT all.  Try again.Stampin Up Daydream Medallions Floral Frames

As you can see I finally opted to white emboss on each of the colors of card stock, separating them from each other with dimensionals.  The little purple flowers, of course set off with tiny pearls really bring it all together.

White background – I also chose to leave a lot of white space around the feature image.  Anything I would have put there, with the exception of the Grateful for You sentiment from For All Things stamp set would have been over powered by the featured image.  White space is good.

  1. This is such a cool card. I hope you are sending it to your avon lady; she will get a kick out of it seeing how it matches your placemats and coasters. The closeup picture shows the detail well and how nice the white embossed images look on colored card stock. This was a great choice.

  2. This is wonderful! I love to find inspiration for colors – this is a super-cool find and a super-cool card.
