Mother’s Love in Non-Traditional Colors

Ok, did you realize that Mother’s Day is less than two weeks away.  Have you made all your Mother’s day cards yet, the ones for the mother of your grandchildren, or the friend who is a great mom.  Not to mention, the card for your own mother.  Well, I have a non-traditional Mother’s Day card for you today.

I really really like Very Vanilla and Black together.  I also like Black with Sahara Sand.  Combine all three and add a touch of Gray and you have today’s card.  Obviously I needed a great stamp set and the Mother’s Love from the Spring Occasions catalog was perfect.  I stamped the flower image using Crumb Cake – I tried Sahara sand first but it didn’t have the depth of color I wanted. Included in the stamp set is an image to color in the flowers but I opted to just hand color in the leaves and petals using my Basic Gray marker.  I purposely did not color in the entire leaf or petal as I wanted the sketchy look.  I then used my Basic Black marker to add the accents.

The rest of the card came together quite nicely.  A piece of Sahara Sand embossed with the Fancy Fan embossing folder – retiring in June – on top of Typset Specialty Designer Series Paper also retiring in June.  I used an already retired edgelit from Adoring Accents to create the scalloped border in the middle.  A piece of black ribbon would also do nicely there.
