Beautiful Shapes for a Simple Stamping Thank You

There is a thing called Simple Stamping, it means paper, stamps and ink only for making your card. There is another thing called One Layer Cards. I hardly ever make either of these, ok, rarely…ok, never do I ever make single layer cards …until today. I wanted a simple thank you card to send to gift givers this year and I wanted plenty of writing room. So here’s what I created.

I started with a notecard base – 5 x 7 scored at 3-1/2 in Thick Basic White. I had received a thank you from my son-in-law (store bought) that had a nice basic design with a shape in the middle and a pretty border on the bottom.

The new die set, Beautiful Shapes, has circles, ovals and Hexagons – Yay! I chose the second largest Hexagon to make my center focal point by coloring in the inside of the die with my Stampin Blend. I turned the shape one notch and drew around the inside again with a black gel marker. Finally I drew some dashed lines around the original shape.

The x’s on the bottom come from the coordinating stamp set Hello Beautiful. I lined them up along the bottom then used a ruler and my Stampin’ Blend to color in the banner. The Many Thanks stamp comed from another new stamp set, Lucky You. I made the center both ways, filled in or just outlined with the sentiment inside. It still needed something else to ground the image so I used my ruler again, along with my grid paper, to make a few horizon lines.

It was very very hard not to make a layer. I kept wanting to cut out a hexagon and pop it right there in the middle but I held fast to my original plan.
