Monochromatic – A Study

How do you feel about monochromatic? Monochromatic is defined as creating using only one color or hue. I love monocromatic and use it often. Some might think it is ‘cheating’, or ‘too easy’ but I feel Monochromatic cards and designs can sometimes be harder to come up with while also keeping them balanced and pleasing to the eye.

I saw a similar card to my project today on Pinterest. I was immediately attracted to the use of the embossed vellum for the poinsettia flower. I love embossing on vellum and my stamp class attendees really liked it too.

In order to make this card as ‘easy’ as possible for my class, I took full advantage of my Stamparatus. On one plate, all the poinsettia petals were placed with enough room to stamp, emboss, and die cut the vellum. On the other plate I placed the sentiment and three background leaves, also to be heat embossed.

Here is a trick to using the two dies and stamps to create the poinsettia flower. Line up the stamp, the embossing dies, and the cutting dies. This may take several minutes, ask me how I know! Once you have them all lined up, mark the same petal for all three pieces with a permanent marker. Now flip over the dies and mark the other side too, you won’t regret it.

Here are some other cards I made using this beautiful stamp and die bundle.

  1. Your card is beautiful!! I love the poinsettia bundle and I love vellum. I really love how you stamped & heat embossed the pine branch & leaves directly onto the card!!! Very creative touch.

  2. All of these cards are gorgeous, BUT…that Sahara Sand and vellum card is OVER-THE-MOON! I love everything about it, Lynn! ♥
