Today’s card is for my Son-in-Law, Tony. Tony has been an official member of our family for 2+ years now but an unofficial member for many many more. He and my daughter met on the marching band field in high school, he was the reason she switched from playing trumpet (5 Lbs) to Susaphone aka Tuba (40 lbs). His mother and I knew it was a real thing way before they did. He is a great person, funny, very smart, hard worker, and wonderful to my daughter. I really realized this was going to last forever back when they were both still in high school and he was waiting on her (he had to do that a lot) to go somewhere. He actually picked up her purse, put it on his arm, and waited patiently. Yup, he’s a keeper.
Today’s card was inspired by Nichole Watt’s sketch for The Pals Paper Arts and was selected for the Winners Circle. Thank You Ginger Toivonen for selecting my card this week.
Here is her sketch:
About the card
1. The sketch really made it so easy to create. The toughest part was picking the right paper for my recipient. Nothing girly would do. I also know that blue is his favorite color so I choose to work with Soho Subway Designer Series Paper.
2. Texture. I’ve mentioned before I like texture in a card and today’s is no exception. I did have to be a little tricksy because my card base is 5.5 x 5.5 and the blue DSP I wanted to emboss was larger than the embossing folder. I ran it through using the whole folder, with about an inch or so hanging out. I then moved the folder and embossed just the left over piece, trying as best as possible to line up the pattern. What seam there was, was covered by the panel on the left.
3. Candy dots and Gorgeous grunge are what set this whole thing off. I used the lines stamp from Gorgeous grunge to put a little background on the anchor for my sentiment, then repeated it on the flags. I also used the large water spot stamp on the numbers, and the smaller water spots on the blue background and over the top of the actual sentiment, all using Summer Starfruit. Candy dots finish it up.
Thanks for stopping by today. Have a great weekend. The weather here in Ohio is supposed to be gorgeous.
Lynn
