Ok, so maybe there are more than three things I like about Brian King. And I did steal this saying from him so that might have to count as one of my three things. Shoot, now I don’t know how many things I like about Brian.
Today’s card is one I sent to Brian this week. Brian, if you are reading this post and have not yet received my card, please stop and come back tomorrow…..
I joined Stampin Up as a demonstrator a little over 6 months ago. I made the choice to to join under Brian because:
1. I had been following and thoroughly enjoying his blog for many months as well as participating in his one for one card swaps and paper/ribbon shares.
2. He inspired me in my own card making with his clean lines and helpful techniques. I love, love, love a vintage card but struggle in making one. Brian’s style suited my own nicely.
3. He asked me. We started chatting via email during Sale-a-bration and he started to help me understand all the benefits of becoming a demonstrator especially under him, as that would allow me to be a Stampin Pretty Pal and entitle me to lots of benefits from that awesome stamping community. Then once I was one, he helped me understand the benefits of having my own blog. The great thing about Brian is he wasn’t pushy about any of these suggestions, just practical, and that also fit my style well.
I had been thinking I should send him a thank you card for all he had done for me over these last six months but boy was I intimidated. Whatever card I sent to him had to be “Brian-worthy”. Not just any old card whipped together with ink, paper and tape.
About my card
1. I actually saw this card layout on the Freshly Made Sketches website for last week. I used it to base my card, highlighting the leaves from Gently falling with the color challenge this week.
2. The leaves are embossed with Early Espresso. I then used a whitewash technique I found where you paint the inside with slightly watered white craft ink. Let dry, then using your aqua painter to add more color. For the top left and bottom right I used Elegant Eggplant and crushed curry. For the top right and bottom left I used Always Artichoke and Wild Wasabi. I really like how they turned out.
3. For the sentiment I used the Tags 4 you and the Label Bracket punch. However, I really didn’t want it to say Happy Thanks Giving as the stamp was designed, so I colored in the Happy and the Giving part of the stamp, re-stamped it again with Early Espresso on Pear Pizzazz and cut out the Thanks portion and added Candy dots above and below.
So, Brian, Thank you from the bottom of my heart, for expanding my stamping horizons.
What I used
Stamps: From my heart, Tags 4 You, Gently Falling, Ink: Early espresso, always artichoke, white craft, elegant eggplant, crushed curry, wild wasabi, Paper: Epic Day DSP, Pumpkin Pie, Pear Pizzazz, Baked Brown Sugar, Very Vanilla, Accessories: Label Bracket Punch, candy dots, Early espresso embossing powder, Blossom Punch, corner rounder.
Lynn, My heart has melted. Thank you so much for your kind words. You have been a complete joy to work with, and your talent is really pretty special – overall, I have a really talented and kind group, so you fit in so nicely! I was planning to share this card on my blog Saturday, but I might just bumb it up to tomorrow so I can link folks over to your blog. Thanks, Lynn!
You are totally worth it Brian.
L.

Awesome technique and gorgeous card Lynn!!!
Congratulations on becoming a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator! You’re in the best hands Lynn! I’ve learned so much about my paper craft while being a demonstrator which makes my time in the Studio more fun! And the people I get to meet through Blogging and Conventions is just priceless! Thanks for sharing your Thank You card today, I must practice this white washing! Looking forward to following your artwork!
Patti this last six months has gone by so fast. The stampingcommunity is one of a kind. So supportive of each other. Brian suggested I start a blog and I’m so glad I did because it has put me in contact with even more folks who enjoy this craft and really made me be more creative. I’ve been engaged in other crafts befor but none really captured and held my interest the way stamping has.
So glad you stopped by today. If you are anywhere near Ohio let me know. Love to stamp the day away with you!

This is such a gorgeous card! I even love the paper you used on the inside.
You are very talented! Best wishes for you and your stamping business.
Cheers, Dawn in Maine

Love the card you have done here. I haven’t tried this technique before so I will have to file it away for future use!!
All the best to you as you create and share your beautiful creations.
Jenny (Australia!)
Thank you so much Jenny. It thrills me that I now ‘know’ someone in Australia. Such a close knit yet global community.

I just came from Brian’s blog to see again your beautiful card. This stamp set is really fabulous and the way you used it here is simply amazing. I love the way you arranged the color panels and how you added the beautiful loops of twine behind the sentiment.
You are right, there are more than 3 things to like about Brian, he is indeed an inspiration in so many levels.
Thanks again for sharing this beautiful Fall card.
Maria.
Thank you so much. I have to admit Maria, I thought of you while I was water coloring the leaves. You are still the best watercolor artist I seen.
This a beautiful card, love the colors and the layout. Thank you for sharing the white wash technique. I will now have to,try this.
Very cool techniques and gorgeous card! Thanks for the inspiration.
Really like your card! Fall colors and leaves are favorites of mine and you have done them both justice. I follow Brian’s blog and look forward to following you, too. Thanks for sharing.
Absolutely gorgeous card, Lynn. A real work of art! Love the colors you used, the semi-corner rounder framing and the flower layering with twine! (OK, technically that’s 4, but I couldn’t help myself)
I believe I will be making this card soon! TFS!
Hi Lynn:
I also jumped here from Brian’s blog. You did a fantastic job on this card for sure. I especially love the way you perfectly rounded that twine backing. I’m so happy to hear you joined SU under Brian. I don’t think you could have found a better leader. He is one very, very special guy for sure. Good luck and enjoy.
Stunning! And what an accurate write-up of our leader, King Brian.
Kelly I’m so proud to be part of InKing Royalty with you. Brian’s court will be one to watch.

Lynn, as always your work is awesome! Every detail is perfect. I love your rounded corners take on that sketch, too. And you and Brian are two of the reasons that the Pals’ community is filled with so much fun and inspiration!
Your card for Brian is really nice! I haven’t tried that technique but I may just have to do it now! 🙂
Lynn, this card is absolutely wonderful and definitely “Brian-worthy”! I appreciated Brian sharing it with us which also helps lead me to you. My mostest (for emphasis only) favorite detail is the twine loops. Must CASE. Hugs from another Pal!
What a stunning card! I can’t wait to try out this new technique!
