2013octhop_badge

Thank you for joining us for the Pals Halloween Blog Hop. We hope you enjoy our virtual trick-or treat hop where you will either learn great tricks for your creative projects or enjoy a blog candy treat.

This is Stop number 1.  You should have just left stop number 26 on the Pals Hop – Margaret Moody at Margaret Moody. If so, you are in the right spot.  If you get off track, the full blog lineup below will help you move along from blog to blog so you see all of the amazing creations.

My card today card is an experiment in creativity.  I have 5 young children under the age of 5  in my life (grandchildren, nieces and nephews) and I like making fun cards for them to receive in the mail.  Today’s card is what I’ll be sending to them for Halloween this year. I’ve also submitted it in The Paper Players Halloween card challenge this week, number #PP166.

About the Card
1.  Hopefully it looks like a witch’s shoe.  At least that was what I was going for : )  I hand drew my template, cut it out then used it to trace the card base, the outside and inside pieces.

2.  The Trick for today is how to make a cool layered piece for the Tags 4 You Stamp and Label Bracket punch.  I punched it again, twice, in basic black.  Cut each piece in half, one vertically and one horizontally.  Clip off the pointy edges on the horizontal piece. Add some snail on each and layer it behind your original punch.  Makes a great layered look without trimming the stamp, which I totally could have done, but opted for this way instead.  This method also works great on the Decorative Label Punch, Curly Label and Petite Curly Label or the Artisan Label punch too.

3.  Obviously I had to make my own envelope for this baby.  The envelope punch board was so easy to use to figure out what measurements to use.  I also lined my card with some scary purple paper (Elegant Eggplant from the Color Collection Designer Series Paper Stacks).

4.  Another Trick – envelope liners.  When I make my own envelopes using the punch board I also like to add a liner.  My easy peasy trick is to measure across the width of the finished envelope.  Cut a square of paper that width.  Lay the paper on the envelope where I want it to be, just in from the point.  Once I have it lined up, I fold in the side corners so it will fit inside the envelope.  Using scissors or my trimmer I cut just inside the fold line. What I have now is a diamond shaped piece of paper, with the left and right points cut off. I can now trim off the bottom point, or leave as it won’t show inside the closed envelope. There are certainly other more precise ways of creating an envelope liner using the punch board but this seems to work well for me.

Thanks for stopping off here on your blog hop.  I love to read your comments, let me know what you think of my witches shoe.
