A birthday wish for the Paper Players

Today’s card is for my very good friend Lisa.  Lisa is celebrating a very special birthday this week because she has just finished 7 months of dealing with breast cancer, to come out on the other side cancer free. I know she will feel like this is like another first birthday, as she should.

The Paper Players challenge this week is a color challenge using Crisp Cantaloupe, Midnight Muse and Gold.

About my card
1.  Use of white space.  I have a lot of ‘white’ space meaning very vanilla here.  I find that when I have trouble mixing colors that using white space with touches of the colors works best.  I used layers of Brushed Gold (yes, constant reader, I’ve finally ordered and received my pad of Brushed Gold, whew) to ground the rest of the card and pull out more of the gold where possible.

2.  I embossed here a lot.  I first embossed the images from Apothecary Art in gold, first stamping with the Encore Gold stamp pad then embossing with gold embossing powder. This allowed me to water color the flowers and leaves without worry of it bleeding into the other areas of the image.

3.  I used a bit of Gorgeous Grunge watermark stamp over the top of the stamped image as well as on the background piece.  I actually tried it with a gold embossed En Francaise stamp but it was way to busy.  Then I remembered I had the Tea Lace Paper Doilies.  I brushed them up with gold ink using a sponge dauber then sprinkled it all with gold embossing powder and heated it up.  I liked the effect.  Almost looks like it was cut from gold foil.  Half of a doily placed behind the Label Collection framelit was a great add for just a bit ‘more’.

I hope you liked my card today.  If you would like to order any of the items I used in my project, click on any of the images below to be directed to my Stampin’ Up! store.

Thanks for stopping by today

  1. Man oh man is this a gorgeous card! I love how you embossed the Apothecary Art stamp set in gold then water colored the flowers. I love the hold doily and the speckles elsewhere. I think the large amount if white space is perfect. The colorful flowers really stand out. I think I will case this and show my stamp club. Well done.

And happy birthday and congratulations to Lisa!

  2. Wowzers, Lynn! This is ABSOLUTELY STUNNING! I am in awe of its beauty – what you did with that doily is absolutely amazing. I can’t stop looking at it! All my best to your friend Lisa. She’s fortunate to have a wonderful friend like you.
