An Easter Water Color

Before we get to my card, a big shout out goes to the great people at Freshly Made Sketches, especially Cindy L. who selected the card I made for my wood working brother as a Princess selection. It was my first time in the winner circle and I’m just thrilled.  A lot of you commented on it as well.  You can see that card here.

Easter is only a little over a week away and this weekend I have my monthly stamp class. (If you live in the Columbus Ohio area and would be interested in attending my monthly class, drop me an email at StampingWithAverysOwlery@gmail.com).  I thought an Easter card would be a great addition for this month.  They have also been asking me to do some water coloring so today’s card combines the two. This card also happens to fit into the Pals Paper Arts color challenge this week, # 199. I used Old Olive instead of Pear Pizzaza and Daffodil Delight instead of So Saffron but according to Color Challenge guidelines, you can use similar color.  Yay.

About my card
1.  You don’t have to make it complicated.  Today’s card is four pieces of card stock, counting the piece on the inside for writing your personal note, but it still is quite a pretty card with some nice extra step it up touches.

2.  Don’t be afraid to water color, even just a little bit. As water coloring goes, this is one of the easiest forms.  I colored the stamp with markers, stamped on very vanilla and then water colored in the flowers with my aqua painter and ink pad.  The shading provided in the original stamp does the heavy lifting.  For beginners, it’s a great first project.

3. Ribbon is almost always the answer.  I had this card all laid out, not glued down since  I never do that until I’m sure it’s ‘perfect’, and realized I still needed more background.  I had already embossed the edge of the card base so more embossing was out. That’s when I decided on the ribbon behind the image.
