I made today’s card for no particular person, or reason, except that I was inspired by the sketch last week from Freshly Made Sketches. Here’s my take on that sketch.
Most of the design team used a circle in the background as the sketch depicts. I thought it would be cool to use the Swallowtail background stamp instead. I did borrow a technique from another stamper – and I would totally give credit if I could find find where I saw it – and heat embossed the swallow tail with white embossing powder, then used sponge daubers to color in the image. I used Crushed curry on the left, then Marina Mist, followed by Island Indigo.
I thought I had finished the card with the ribbon on the left and the sentiment on the right, but the top right looked a little sad. another butterfly, stamped in Island Indigo on Marina Mist with some pearls to the rescue. The butterfly stamp is from Papillon Potpourri.
Thanks for stopping by today.
Lynn
Items used include Marina Mist paper and ink, Papillon Potpourri and swallowtail stamps, watercolor wonder designer series paper, whisper white and crushed curry cardstock.
Oh this is so lovely and dreamy – I just love this colour combo and the images you’ve used are perfect! Thanks for joining us at Freshly Made Sketches this week!
this is original and just gorgeous. I enjoy your style 🙂
WOW! This is a stunning card! I did not buy the Swallowtail, as much as I love butterfiles…well, because it was just so BIG! You have taken it to a whole new level though. Using only part of the butterfly, and embossing in white and sponging with color, makes it truly unique! The added butterfly on the right is just perfect! I love how you cut out the little banner too. Very very nice! Since this is not a retired stamp, I may have to re-think my options on this one! Thanks so much for the inspiration!
Bobbi I’m so glad you liked it. I also didn’t purchase the swallowtail stamp initially for your same reason, it was so large. I have found though that it is great as a background when I pull in only parts. I now love it and it’s versatility.
