I was inspired by a recent post of Mary Fish, StampinPretty.com, where she used 1″ square pieces of Designer Series paper to create a beautiful card front. You can see her original post here.
I thought that would be a great way to use some older already retired paper, or just paper I had bits and pieces of.
I feel like Marina Mist is my forgotten blue. I always seem to reach for the richness of Midnight Muse or Night of Navy, or the funkiness of Island Indigo, and totally bypass Marina Mist. The last two cards I’ve made were done in Marina Mist. Tryin’ to make it up to ya buddy.
Anyway, I took several scrap pieces of DSP that would go well together and with Marina Mist and cut them into 1″ squares. I used a piece of white card stock with lots of snail adhesive and laid them out with 5 pieces across the top, and four rows. Then I cut it using the Top Note die with a little Marina Mist sponging on the edges. I wasn’t planning on using any type of background stamp but the quilted top note looked like it needed something underneath.
Thanks for stopping by today. I hope you give this technique a try.

Yes, I love quilted cards! This one is great too. Blue is my favorite color and Marina Mist was the first SU ink I purchased. 🙂
Fabulous idea for using up those scraps we hate to throw away! I love the Marina Mist!
Love this! What a beautiful combination of patterns in similar colors. So nice, Lynn!
Love your quilted card. Beautiful combo of colors!
Very pretty card. One of my favorites from you. Thanks for sharing!
Beautiful card. I love the use of the scraps. This will be one I case for sure, as I’m the Membership Chairman for my quilt guild. I’ll be making this one to send to new members. Thank you so much for the great ideas and sharing.
I have done a few quilted cards and they are always well received. Another step that can be added is to run the “quilt” through an embossing folder to give it a truly quilted look. Love it!
Cute – I wonder if the blue cards lately are because of the blue weather we’ve been having.
Your amazing card just “blue” me away!! Or I should have said “marina blue” me away!! Oh well. I love retired paper especially those little bits and pieces that I just can’t throw away for some odd reason.
