A few of my favorite things for the February Pals Blog Hop

2015febhop_badge

Welcome to the February Pals Blog Hop. This month we are sharing what we love – our favorite Stampin’ Up! products and our favorite crafting techniques.

You may just be starting the blog hop or may have come from Maggie Mata at Maggie Made Cards. Use the full lineup below to move along from blog to blog so you see all of the new projects.

My card today is for a very special person, Riley.  Riley is my nephew.  You might remember I made thank you cards for ‘Riley’ (wink wink) to send out when he needs to say thank you to someone.  Riley is 4 and while he can and does very clearly say thank you, a hand written note might be a bit much for him.  You can see that post HERE.  Well, Riley got a new baby brother last week, baby Aiden.  So there are a lot of changes going on in Riley’s life right now and I thought he might like a card just for him and the start of his journey in being an awesome big brother.  Here’s my card.

This darling picture of Riley was in our Christmas package from him.  It hangs proudly on my fridge. In case you can’t tell, his tee shirt says This is what an awesome brother looks like. Isn’t that great.

My favorite things from Stampin UP

  • Unique items – I really wanted this card to be super fun for Riley and 4 year olds know it when the see their names written.  I choose to use a new product in the Occasions catalog, the Alphanumeric Simply Pressed Clay mold with some Simply Pressed Clay.  This is so easy. You take a bit of clay, and trust me you don’t need very much and the clay lasts forever if the packaging is closed properly.  Well not forever, but I’ve had mine for about 18 months and it’s still perfect.  Press the clay into the mold and then I pop the mold into the freezer for a few mins.  This helps the clay keep it’s shape when I pop it out.  Leave it out to dry.  I usually do the clay the day before so they are good and dry when I’m ready to use them.  They are easy to make ahead too, if you are using the other button of flower molds available. Once dry I used my Real Red marker and colored one side before using Tombow to attach to the card.Stampin Up Cheerful Critters Alphanumeric Mold AverysOwlery.com
  • Blendabilities – This card also gave me a chance to use my Cheerful Critters stamp set that I received free from Mary Fish at the Stampin Up Leadership convention last week.  I inked up the little bear with Memento Ink and colored him in with my Crumb Cake, Cherry Cobbler and Blush Blendabilities
  • Designer Series Paper – I know that Riley’s favorite color is Red, and it is February which just makes you think of Red, so  I pulled out my Stacked with Love paper stack, filled with wonderful designs in Black, White, Real Red and Calypso Coral and Crisp Cantaloupe.  The patterns I used are actually one on each side of the same paper.
  • Big Shot and embossing folders – I had the card all laid out – before adhering anything of course- and decided the large piece of white cardstock was looking rather plain.  The Stylish Stripes textured embossing folder did the trick.
