Today is September 11 and most Americans remember this as a day of mourning for what occurred on this day in 2001. I however also remember this as my dad’s birthday. He turns 79 today.
This is the first picture of my whole family, taken in April 1976. My mom is holding my baby brother Pete, who is 15-1/2 years younger than I am. The cute blond in the front is my brother Joe who now has a son age 2-1/2 and who looks just like him. My other brother Jim is in the back with me.
This picture from March 2015 is of my mom and dad, well, actually Granny and Papa as they are now known, holding their newest grandson, Aiden. The baby brother Pete in the picture above….this is his son and my folks 8th grandchild. With my own two grand children, my folks have a total of 10 grand and great grandchildren. Aidenas the youngest grand baby was born just a week after my oldest daughter Katie, the oldest grand baby turned 30. I think my folks look great!
Happy Birthday, Daddy
In my last post I showed off the Season to Season wreath kit and banners, one for fall, Halloween and Christmas. If you missed it you can see that post Here. Since I had all the items out to make those pretty leaves I made some more to use with today’s card. I was even able to work in two, count ’em, two fabulous bundles in one card. Can you pick them out?
Texture.
My reason for making this card was to demonstrate lots of types of texture without being overwhelming, at least that’s what I hope I was doing!. I wanted to include the Among the Branches embossing folder, new in the holiday catalog but I wanted it to be simply a background item, not the star of the show. I embossed a piece of Tip Top Taupe and layered it on a card base of the same color. It looked ok, but I thought the trees could stand out a bit more so using my Tip Top Taupe marker I ran it down the left side of each of the tree trunks. It actually looks better in person.
Next I worked on my Vintage Leaves. I stamped each of the designs on Daffodil Delight card stock using Crumb Cake. I like to use a bright yellow as the start of my leaves to make the colors more vibrant. I’ve also used Crumb Cake and they are ok, but the yellow based leaves have more wow. After stamping and cutting out with the coordinating framelits, I spritzed them with alcohol and crumpled them up to give them character. Flattened them out and let dry. You can use your heat tool to speed this part up.
Once dry I used sponge daubers in fall colors to give them the real fall leaf color. I start with the primarily color I want for the leaf, like Cherry Cobbler for a maple or Crushed Curry for an oak and use that color first. Then I add some greens and oranges to fill in. Last step is to add in browns on the edges and over the top to pick up those creases in the paper. I used Among the Branches stamp set for the sentiment, stamping Cherry Cobbler on Tip Top Taupe. It still needed some more so I cut a tea lace doily into 4 pieces and sponged Sahara Sand on the edges and tucked it in behind the sentiment, some gold metallic thread and a couple of flags using Watermelon Wonder and Crushed Curry. Bet you never thought of Watermelon Wonder as a fall color, did you!
Did you figure out the two bundles? Among the branches with the embossing folder and Vintage Leaves with coordinating framelits.

Nice looking family; you are blessed, big time! Of course, liked the card as well…beautiful!. Happy Birthday to your father! Looking forward to your next card design. Thanks for sharing.
Awwww…happy birthday to Lynn’s dad! What a wonderful post and a gorgeous card. So much beautiful texture.
Today is also my Dad’s Birthday and he would have been 81 today. I missed be born on his birthday by one day, but have a niece who was born on his birthday the year after he passed away. So day has sad and happy memories. Great card love the use the Among the branches embossing folder.
I remember the card I gave him in 2002, the year after the terrorist attack. I wrote “It was your day first”.
Treasure every day and occasion you can share with your dad (and your mom). I lost my dad recently and even though he was 91 and lived a good and long life, it is still a devastating loss. Enjoy;-)
Happy birthday to your dad. What a lovely post
