Bokeh, it’s a very popular technique in the stamping community but one I had never tried before, until now, that is. I googled Bokeh for a definition.
I was also pleased to find lots of videos on line. I watched a couple and then went to it. Here is the result.
1. Background. I started with a piece of watercolor paper, larger than I needed for my card front so I could trim it down to size once finished. I used painters tape all around the edges. This helps hold the water on the paper and not all over your work space. After I spritzed the paper heavily with water I dipped my aqua painter in ink from the stamp pad and touched it to the watercolor paper. I started with Blackberry Bliss, then Pool Party and lastly a little bit of Pear Pizzazz.
2. Waiting, letting dry. It has to dry before you go on. While it was drying I made a second card front.
3. Making the mask. While it was drying, I cut several sizes of circles out of clear acetate window sheet using the circles framelits. This made a mask for the white part. Don’t throw this away, you can use this whenever you decide to Bokeh.
4. Using the Mask. Once both sheets are good and dry I used a sponge dauber and white craft ink and a circular motion with the mask moving it around and even putting circles on top of other circles.
4. Waiting again, letting dry
5. Trim to size and stamp a sentiment. I used the Watercolor Thank You with Basic Black Archival Ink.
6. Mount on card base. I used Pool Party with Whisper White for one, and Pear Pizzazz with Whisper White for the other. I didn’t want to go crazy with layers as the technique itself provides layers of color.
It really isn’t a hard technique. I’ve certainly done harder. But it is time consuming with all that waiting. You can use a heat gun to speed it up but I wanted it really really dry so I left it over night after step one.
