Sky is the Limit Birthday

Male birthday cards can be a challenge for some.  We all are quick to pull out the flowers and butterflies for our female friends and relatives but what to do for those special guys.  My take on masculine cards is to make them simple yet interesting.  That doesn’t necessarily equate to ‘easy’ to make. Stampin Up Sky is the Limit AverysOwlery.com

I make birthday cards for all of my staff and co workers at my day job, and it is primarily males I work with, although that is steadily changing over the years.  This card is for one of my staff whose birthday was this week.  I felt that the airplane from the free Sale a Bration stamp set Sky is the Limit would do nicely as a start, but first I needed a background.

I cropped out a mask using the Tree Builder punch from cardstock.  I just wanted the ‘top’ of the tree for a cloud shape.  I placed the hole of the cloud on my white card stock and sponged using Soft Sky then over that some white craft ink.  I moved the mask around the top of the paper to give me several clouds.  For the bottom portion of the card stock I used the Soft Sky ink pad and kinda drug it across the paper in a couple of places.  Then I stamped the plane, the sentiment and the exhaust.

I could have put that piece on my card base nice and straight like I usually do but decided to change it up a bit and slant it.  I figured it resembled flight.  Jsut alone though it looked kind of stupid on the front of the card crooked like that so I racked my brain for an embellishment and came up with the washi tape.  I really don’t use that often enough.  It isn’t because I don’t have any, I have lots, or it isn’t handy, it’s in a drawer right next to my stamp blocks.  I just don’t use it.  Maybe 2016 will be my washi tape year.  Those two pieces of black and clear washi tape from the Everyday Chic Designer Washi Tape collection was the perfect add to the front of my card.
