Look Who’s Turning 1 and a PPA challenge

My nephew turns 1 this week so I took the opportunity to create a cool card for him.  I’m espeically excited because we will be seeing him just a few days after his birthday when we travel to visit him in San Diego.

I used the PPA 284 Sketch as my inspiration.  Thanks Pals.

Since I was working with a sketch with some unique aspects, I started with the paper I would use first. I think little boys really like Real Red and I think Real Red looks super with Pool Party.  The Crushed Curry pattern from Botanial Gardens Designer Series Paper added just the right shade of yellow.

I also knew I wanted to use the number 1 from the Number of Years stamp and die bundle.  When I pulled it out, I noticed the “Look Who’s Turning” and that it was curved just like the element on the sketch.  And best of all, the middle Oval framelit fits the curve of that sentiment perfectly.  You’re Welcome!!

What little boy birthday card would be complete without balloons.  Balloon Celebration has two sizes of balloons, with an outline and dots.  After stamping them I used my aqua painter to pull the color up from the dots to shade in the rest of the balloon with Real Red, Pool Party and Crushed Curry.

The Birthday Boy sentiment is free from the Limited time Sale-a-Bration stamp set – Hello.  Get them while you can.  This stamp set is only available for ordering through Feb 14.

I had a lot of things I wanted to include on Aiden’s card so the finished size is 5×7.  That meant I needed to create a hand crafted envelop for it as well.  I used pape from the Perfectly Artistic Designer Series Paper, another free limited time item from Sale-abration.  Order soon as it is only available until Feb 14.  To see other projects with this paper, click Here.

  1. Lynn, this card is incredibly cute and without seeing the other entries for PPA, I’d say this one is a winner! I LOVE so many aspects of this card such as putting the sentiment on the circle, all the balloons, the balloons tied to the number 1… Well done my friend! Happy birthday to your nephew as well.

  2. Wow I love how bright and happy this card is! Perfect for a birthday! Glad you shared it at PPA!

  3. I think this is the perfect birthday card for any gender and any age! ……and I’m not just saying that because it’s my sketch design for the Pals Paper Arts sketch challenge this week either. LOL Your card seriously went above & beyond. Thank you so much for joining us.

  4. I love how you paired the Birthday Balloons with Number of Years! Even better, I love the watercoloring you did on the balloons. What a great idea! Thanks for playing along with PPA this week – I hope to see you there again soon!

  5. You created my favorite card. Love the color combination. It has so much interest. Way to go!!!

  6. Love this card! Fabulous card for your nephew! What are the measurements of the diagonal piece? TFS!!!

    • Hi KIM, the diagonal piece is 2-1/4 wide at the top and 3-1/8 at the widest. 6-1/2 long on the left side and 4-7/8 on the angle side. I cut the piece to full length and full width first, then cut the angles to what looked good.
