Onward and Upward – to First Grade

Big doin’s in the family.  Avery graduates from kindergarten this week and will be in first grade in the fall.   She has already been to visit the first grade class rooms and has learned the first grade reading sight words. She is very ready to continue her education.  I wanted to make a card to congratulate her on this momentous accomplishment.  Stampin Up Number of Years Averys Owlery

I pulled out my Clarity Stencil brushes and some post it tape to create areas I could color.  Watermelon Wonder, Crushed Curry, Rich Razzleberry and Bermuda Bay.  I moved the tape each time to create a different opening to color.  I did not plan this out, whatsoever.  Honestly, I didn’t even plan on making it into a card for First Grade until I saw how the blocks lined up.  The ‘1’ from Number of Years fitting perfectly in the negative space.  I used my Mini MISTI to get super solid coverage for the ‘1’ by stamping it multiple times.  That’s what MISTIs are great for as you stamp in exactly the same place every time.

The inside had to be as colorful and fun as the outside.  Both sentiments are from Bravo stamp set.  I stamped the Way to Go out twice once on the whisper white in Watermelon Wonder and then again with Basic Black.  I snipped out the banner and adhered it over top.  The letters were cut from coordinating card stock using Little Letters dies (on the retired list).
