Merriest Frames Hybrid – What I Learned

So, before I get to my project using Merriest Frames Hybrid Die and Embossing Folder I need to apologize for my recent absence. I have been done for the count with a summer cold turned into Bronchitis, Sinus, and Ear infection. I don’t think I left the couch for 2 weeks. Summer colds are the worst and this was a doozy. But I’m back now and I have several projects to share with you over the coming days, most using products from the new Mini Catalog released Aug 3.

I figured I would start with one of the more complicated products in the catalog. This is the second offering Stampin’ UP! has released of their Hybrid Embossing Folder, intended to be used as a standard Embossing folder or to die cut and emboss at the same time with the coordinating die.

Here’s what I learned using Merriest Frames

  1. It doesn’t work on watercolor paper when using the die and embossing folder together. The paper is just too thick to cut through.
  2. Next I tried it with Basic White and the die and embossing folder. Failed again. The de cut cut but too much in one area and the embossing was not very distinct.
  3. Finally I tried embossing only first, and then using the die without the embossing folder to cut it out. Success! This is what you see on my final version here. I
  4. Used the large die cut to create a background border from Real Red then add some watercolor ink to some of the embossing. Use a stampin’ write marker to add definition to the embossing.
  5. Crop a piece of Tidings of Christmas 6×6 DSP (in the annual catalog item 155718) using the stitched die from Merriest Frames and stamp the sentiment with versamark and heat emboss with white powder.
  6. Stamp Poinsettias on Real Red using Versamark and heat emboss with White embossing powder. Die cut and layer on card front as shown. I used glue dots for a little separation, but not as much as what would be if using dimensionals.
  7. Finish the card with a Sahara Sand card base and another piece of Tidings of Christmas DSP.
