Cherry Blossoms

As promised, I’m sharing projects made using soon-to-be-gone forever stamps, dies, and punches. Today is in honor of the beautiful Cherry Blossoms in our nation’s capital are in bloom now. I’ve not had the pleasure of seeing the cherry trees in bloom in DC but hope to someday so instead, I’ll have to be satisfied with my paper version. NOTE: at the time I made this card, both the stamp sets I used and the twig punch were still available, sadly they have sold out, however, the Forever Blossom dies are still in stock.

Watercolor Wash

The main image in the Forever Blossoms stamp set is a rather long cherry blossom branch that immediately made me think of a slimline car so with that as a start I was off. I used one of the non-retiring slimline dies for my background but first, I did a watercolor wash on the basic white cardstock with Polished Pink. I wanted some pink but not as much as regular cardstock would have provided. The watercolor wash was just enough. TIP: I should have used Thick Basic White to give the die-cut more stability and make it easier to glue to the card front.

The cherry blossoms were stamped in Gray Granite and then watercolored with Polished Pink and Pear Pizzazz for soft color. TIP: Stamp in Memento Tuxedo Black ink instead of gray granite. I used a journaling pen on the flowers and stems after coloring to bring out more contrast. Had I used black ink to begin with it would have been fine.

The sentiment comes from another stamp set that has sold out, Create with Friends. I hope you have this stamp set in your craft space as there are so many ways to combine the script and typed words for just the right sentiment.
