Border thank you

Happy Monday everyone.  I thought I’d throw in an extra post this week, to make up for missing several the last couple of weeks.  I really didn’t think I would be back in my stamping space this weekend, but it worked out that I could sneak some time in here and this is the card I made.  IMG_1034

About my card
1.  Creating your own border.  You can look and look and look, but you will not find the floral border in any Stampin Up catalog.  This one was created all by me.  Start by drawing a soft flowing line, with loops.  I used Wisteria Wonder marker, the thin point.  I then stamped in Strawberry Slush, the flower from the Banner Blast (still available as a free item with $50 purchase until March 31 with Saleabration).  I used Always Artichoke marker, the thick end to draw on some leaves, basically a V shape.  Since the flower is a solid flower with no line definition and I had drawn on my leaves it looked a little flat, so I used my black marker, thin end, to outline the leaves and the flowers.  I liked the effect much better.  Lastly, some Gumball Green and the Gorgeous Grunge water spots.

2.  Creating a layered sentiment.   I love using the Word Window punch for sentiments but a Word Window alone was blah.  Normally I would go to the Modern Label as a layer underneath but I didn’t like the shape in contrast to the flowers in the border so I pulled out a bunch of punches and decided on the 1.25 scalloped circle with the petals cut and curled up.  I liked the effect but it was still too small for the space.  Back to the punches, found the Label Bracket punch (a holiday catalog item that I’m hoping makes it to the next annual catalog). That looked pretty cool underneath the others, but still too small.  (This is why I don’t glue ANYTHING down until I know I like it).  Well if the 1.25 looked good with the border, the 2 3/8 should work, also with the petals clipped and curled. How about carrying the ‘theme’ of these cute little flowers even one step further and use the tiny scallop circle from the Itty Bitty Punch Pack, with the petals clipped and curled, topped off with a crushed curry candy dot.

3.  Now I’m happy!

Thanks for stopping by my blog today.  If you would like to purchase any of the items I used in my project today, you can click on any of the pictures below to be taken directly to my on-line Stampin Up store.

PS: The wedding, my step-son’s Saturday, went perfectly.  A great time was had by all.  Left to right, my husband Steve, the bride Jess and Steve’s son, Steven.

  1. That border is out-of-this-world awesome! I love it! So creative to sketch your own lines around the little stamp. The layering behind the sentiment is pretty great, too!

Love the colors…the black really makes everything pop…

  3. That border is just gorgeous! But for the life of me I cannot see where you used a WW marker! I love the way you layered your sentiment, too, but the handmade border is really the star.
