‘S’ is for Silhouette

I took the plunge a few weeks ago and sold my other e-cutter machine replacing it with a Silhouette e-cutter.  I’m no expert, and I get no kick back from Silhouette for endorsing their product but I have to say, I’m in love.  All the things I wasn’t happy with on my old e-cutter, Silhouette has addressed.  It’s so easy to use and get started.  There are tons of videos out on You Tube for how to use it, but best of all, you can use it in conjunction with the Stampin’ Up! My Digital Studio – MDS, merging projects from MDS to be cut out with the e-cutter.  Awesome.  Crafting just took a giant step up in my house.

‘S’ is also for Sydney, my niece, who is turning 6. I thought she might get a kick out of having her initial on display in her room.  This project is a straight up Silhouette project.  I purchased the e-cutter file from the Silhouette on-line store for $0.99.  Very reasonable prices I think on their cut files.  IMG_1211

IMG_1212-001The box and letters were cut with the Silhouette.  I used Stampin’ Up! punches to create the flower and of course Stampin’ Up! paper, choosing several shades of purple including the new Blackberry Bliss.

My next project I’ll be merging a file from MDS with Silhouette.  This way, you can print something, like a name or phrase, inside a punch or frame-lit shape and the Silhouette will cut it out perfectly for you.  I’ve often stressed over getting unique shapes cut especially with printing inside, and being perfectly straight. No more stressing for me.

Thanks for stopping by today.  If you have any questions about my project, or would like to order Stampin’ Up! products I’m only an email away at StampingwithAverysOwlery@gmail.com

  1. Such a great project! Glad you are liking your Silhouette. It’s a pretty nifty machine, huh? 🙂

  2. Sydney will love this! I bought my silhouette on sale after seeing a project Brian made. I have yet to get it out of the box. I think it’s time.

    • Ok, so you Miss My Digital Studio, have to get yours opened and check out how you can merge files from MDS to cut with the Silhouette. It’s amazing how easy it is.

  3. Ummm . . . my initial is N! This is beautiful. Love the colors too. Enjoy your new toy! 🙂

  4. Your granddaughter sure is blessed to have you for her grandmother. GREAT project!

  5. I have been on the fence about getting one…..wow! I have a granddaughter that would LOVE to have this in her room! Is there much of a learning curve for it? I’m fairly adept with electronic gadgets.

    • Dianne, there wasn’t much of a learning curve for me because I had worked with an e-cutter before with a software program similar to this one. If you have ever used Microsoft Office products such as Visio or Powerpoint, many of the concepts are the same. If you have used My Digital Studio, many of those concepts are the same as well. However, even if you are not familiar with e-cutters, there are tons and tons of videos on you tube with tips on how to use it. Silhouette also provides training videos and has a pretty good user manual in PDF form.

But the real reason I bought it…..because I can merge files I create with Stampin’ Up! My Digital Studio into it, print it and the Silhouette will cut it out exactly. That means I can create something, like a framelit shape with wording on it for example, and the silhouette will cut it out exactly, with the type perfectly aligned the way I designed it. I can print things using colors from SU that will coordinate with my card and have them cut out perfectly every time. That alone makes it worth it for me.

  6. Hmm, Lynn, now you have me thinking… I’ve had my eye on the Brother scan & cut to replace my e cutter I have not been happy with. I have seen many projects and posts on the Silhouette and admired the finish projects. .. I certainly will need to do some comparative analysis between the two before I take the plunge!
