I have a new staff member on my full time work team. His name is Jake. Recently, Jake and I worked together to create a status board for my team to use for daily meetings. We used a white board and very thin stretchy 1/4 and 1/8 inch black tape to divide the board into many many sections. Now, being a paper crafter, I am very sensitive to paper and layers being straight and even. Jake was awesome in creating the 60 inch parallel lines so straight you can use a level. He was as particular about making those lines straight as I was. Well this week was his birthday and I thought the lined paper from Timeless Elegance would make a great card for Jake.
So I have to admit that my original intent was to cut a perfect piece of this paper on the diagonal even thought the paper has the stripes running horizontally (or vertically depending on the way you are holding the paper). I’ve seen Brian King (StampwithBrian.com) do this tons of times. Surley I can figure out how to do this too. Well, evidently not. I tried to do the math, lay out the paper, cut, but I just couldn’t get the angle correct. So I thought I could first cut the 12×12 sheet down to 6×6. Of course, when I did that, the pice was not large enough on the diagonal to cover the standard size card front. I wrapped the paper around the card front initially intending to make score lines that I could cut the paper and leave the corners uncovers, but as what often happens when paper crafting, I kinda liked the way it looked wrapped around from the back. With the large sentiment I had already planned on using for the center, it made an interesting background. I think Jake will appreciate the lines.
I used the large sentiment from Happy Birthday Everyone embossed in black on another piece of the Timeless Elegance paper. I used my aqua painter with Sahara Sand to shadow the sentiment a bit.
