Floral Sympathy

It seems that January has been a month of sad and unexpected deaths.  David Bowie, Glenn Fry, Alan “Professor Snape” Rickman, Abe Vigoda and many others.  It also doesn’t seem to have stopped with celebrities as this week the father of one of my co-workers, family member of another and the mother of my husbands college roomate all passed away on Monday.  I’ve spent the week creating Sympathy cards and here is the first one I’ll be sharing with you.

You might not necessarily agree with me but I took my inspiration from the Pals Paper Arts color Challenge 285 this week.  The challenge calls for Watermellon Wonder that I substitued with Cherry Cobbler, Pink Pirrouette that I substitued with Cherry cobbler/White wash, and Tip Top Taupe that I substituted with Soft Suede. The beauty of challenges is you can follow them exactly or loosely and this time I went loose.

I finally had a chance to use the What I Love stamp set.  It is a free offering from Sale A Bration and a three step stamp set, meaning there are three different stamps that work one over the other to create the image.  I chose to only use the outline of the flower with white embossing powder on the Soft Suede.  I toyed with  stamping a lighter color but since I had gone with a darker card stock I opted instead with a white wash, using my aqua painter and White Kraft Ink.  Then I added cherry cobbler ink over the white wash to lighten it up. I tucked a little underneath the sentiment from Rose Wonder as well for shadowing.

  2. Lynn – your colors aren’t a perfect match, but I don’t care at all. This card is gorgeous! This year has been filled with lots of loss, and this is a wonderful way to show how much you care. Love it! Thank you so much for playing along with this week’s Pals Paper Arts Color Challenge. I’m glad you did.

  6. I totally see the inspiration from the challenge colors, Lynn. I think Cherry Cobbler was a mindful substitute for Watermelon Wonder considering the sentiment you are conveying. Nice choice.

  7. Lynn, these colors are perfect! You’ve gotten such depth with the addition of the white embossing. I just keep looking at your card, it’s so pretty! Thanks for joining us this week at Pals Paper Arts!
