Lasting Elegance Peony

I’ve said this before, Peony’s are my very favorite flower.  Fortunately, because we have a new Prized Peony stamp and die set I can see my favorite Peony any time I want.  Today I have paired the large image from Prized Peony along with the die cut set from Lasting Elegance for a Lasting Elegance Peony, one I can enjoy all year long.

I pulled out the stunning Peony Garden Designer Series Patterned Paper to start with my background.  The small print on this piece of smokey slate wasn’t overpowering for the die cuts.

I used both of the larger corners die cuts from Lasting Elegance on page 180.  This die set coordinates with Last a Lifetime Stamp set on page 80.

I do love to color and I’m determined to get my customers and class attendees to if not love it, at least enjoy it too.  I used Stampin Blends to color the stamped peony image.  With all the detail in the stamp it was easy to do.  I used Light Petal Pink over all of the flowers.  Dark Petal pink in the lighter shaded portions with some light calypso coral in the darker shaded portions.  The leaves are done in light and dark smokey slate.

Stampin Blends are one of two kinds of markers offered by Stampin’ UP!.  Stampin Blends are alcohol based markers and are made to blend together, just like the name says.  The alcohol base allows the colors to shade into each other without harsh lines or streaks.  Make sure to use a Waterbased ink to stamp the image you are going to color, otherwise the colors will smear.  All Stampin’ Blend markers are sold in combo packs – one light and one dark.

Stampin’ UP! also has a full line of water-based markers in all the colors sold either by color family (top image) or as a full set (bottom image).  These markers will last a long long time when stored on their sides. These markers can be used just like the ink pads, you can even use the marker to color the stamp (red rubber works best for this method) and allows for multiple colors on one stamp.  Make sure to use a non-water based ink like Stazon or Archival inks or embossed images if you are going to color with these markers. If you use the standard ink pads by SU the colors will smear together.
