Decorative Masks for Mother’s Day

A while back I posted a card using the newButterflies & Flowers Decorative Masks. You can see that post here. Today I’m back but this time instead of the Butterfly I’m highlighting the flowers. These flowers are simply beautiful with a simplistic design made unique because of the layers. Let’s take a look.

Decorative Masks

To make this design I used the parts of the Decorative Masks three times. First the largest, most open stencil, with Blushing Bride and my blending brushes, but you could also use sponges or daubers. I next used the more detailed stencil in Basic Gray to provide the shading. The final step was to add the leaves around the outside of the flowers, each done individually so you can place them exactly where you want them, also in Basic Gray.

I chose to use the Decorative Masks on a piece of Pretty Patterned Designer Series Paper, a 24 sheet set of 12 x 12 sheets available with Stampin rewards earned with $150 order or more. It provides additional depth to the design of the flowers.

For a final touch of interest, I used the basic borders dies for a curved edge on all three layers of the card front. To help make these fit nicely together, cut the top layer DSP to 5-1/4 x 4 with the border first. Lay that piece over a 5-3/8 x 4-1/8 piece of Basic Gray and tape the border down along the edge of the DSP. Remove the DSP and cut the border. Finally, layer the two panels over the card base and again line up the border die. Remove the panels and cut the card base with the border. If you are careful, they should nest nicely.
